Door Angle Measurement

Capability of Pods to Measure the Travelled Angle of the Closure.

August 2024, Detroit (USA)

Angle Measurement

Part of the trajectory module, the smart sensing technology in Speed- and EnergyPod is now able to determine the travel angle of the door. This is the angle from the open to the closed position. The algorithm will work for any door type from classic side doors to liftgate or frunk. The process has a build in repetition to confirm the consistency of the operation and reports the average.

Determine Balance Point

The function allows for example to measure the angle from which a door or trunk can be released, falls and potentially latches. This operation is used to validate the balance spring or gas strut of the closure. The lightweight and the option to mount the device near the hinge reduces the influence of the pod on the manipulation.

Benchmarking

While the door angle is not necessarily a go-no-go criteria in a production environment. It will play a significant role in benchmarking where a different door angle, anywhere from 50 to 80degrees can make a significant difference in customer perception. The same is true of the location such as 20, 30 or 40 degrees, and just the amount of detent, 1 or 2, Including the information in benchmarking will enhance the understanding of the difference.
