EZMotion for Car Doors and Hood Deformation

Measuring Vibration or Displacement of Body Panels in Wind Tunnels

November 2024, Detroit (USA)

Wind Load and Vibrations

In the automotive industry, wind tunnel testing is an essential tool to measure and optimize wind noise. With the rising trend of electrification, the demand for wind tunnel testing has skyrocketed, and manufacturers are prioritizing refining wind noise as the combustion engine no longer masks it. EZMotion provides accurate, unfiltered data on any moving part and is easy to combine and synchronize with other captors to ensure optimal design, measuring, analyzing, and defining all events. As the industry continues to evolve, it's crucial to stay ahead of the curve and prioritize the development of efficient and effective testing methods. With data becoming more understandable and tangible, reliable decision-making has become more accessible.

EZMotion in Wind Tunnel

EZMotion can be adapted to work at long distance to stay out and not to disturb the flow of the wind around the object. The adhesive targets have no impact on the flow and can be attached to the structure at any -visible- place. Additional sensors that are synchronized with the 3D measurements, will provide windspeed or angle of attack. The relive movement is crucial to distinguish between movement of the body, or relative movement of a member. One or more points can be installed to study specific deformation modes.

Results

The objective nature of measurements can be used to establish tolerances or design rules for current and future vehicles. The adaptability of the system can be tuned to flow the increasing demands of the testing subjects. This can be accuracy, acquisition speed, or measurement volume related.
